Planting a Tree

United Way Hyderabad – CfBT Partnership: A Legacy of Strengthening STEM Education Across 44 Government Schools

The collaboration between United Way Hyderabad (UWH) and CfBT stood as a powerful example of mission-driven partnership focused on enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in government schools. Under the banner of the STEM AQRITI Back to School Programme, the initiative successfully addressed learning gaps, promoted hands-on science learning, and nurtured scientific thinking among students from underserved communities.

Sports programme - Age appropriate curricular activities

STEM - AQRITI (UWH):  Running from 2020 to 2024 and funded by Qualcomm, this project benefits 6,000 students and 88 teachers across 44 schools, focusing on enhancing STEM education and fostering innovation.

Key Areas of Implementation Across 44 government schools, the programme adopted a multi-faceted approach, helping children transition back into structured learning post-pandemic, while simultaneously strengthening foundational knowledge in Science and Mathematics. The core components included:

1. STEM AQRITI Back to School Classes

These classes:

  • Reinforced foundational concepts in Science and Mathematics. Addressed learning loss through interactive and activity-based

  • teaching methods. Helped students regain grade-level readiness with structured, child-centric modules.

2. Establishment of STEM Labs

  • CFBT, with UWH's support, set up STEM labs that:

  • Enabled experiential learning through hands-on experiments. Served as innovation spaces for students to explore and apply scientific principles.

  • Promoted curiosity and discovery-based education, in line with NEP 2020

3.  STEM Clubs

These clubs

  • Fostered critical thinking and collaboration.

  • Encouraged participation in science fairs, quizzes, and project-based learning.

  • Created opportunities for student leadership and peer learning

4. Remedial Education in Science & Mathematics

     CFBT-led facilitators

  • Conducted diagnostic assessments to identify individual learning needs.

  • Implemented targeted remedial sessions to close specific academic gaps.

  • Used continuous assessment tools to monitor and support student progress.

5. Robotics & Coding Initiatives

In select schools, introductory sessions in robotics and coding:

Built 21st-century skills like computational thinking and problem-solving.

Promoted creativity through technology-integrated learning projects.

Aligned with broader national digital learning initiatives.

6. Teacher Training in Science & Mathematics (TT in Sci & Maths)

As part of sustainable capacity building:

Teachers were trained in modern pedagogical techniques and subject content enhancement.

Regular mentorship and classroom observations supported their professional growth.

Resources, lesson plans, and toolkits were developed and shared for ongoing use.

Lasting Impact

This comprehensive STEM initiative left a lasting imprint on both students and teachers. It not only improved academic performance but also enhanced confidence, creativity, and curiosity among children. The partnership showcased how strategic collaboration can transform public education ecosystems, especially for under-resourced schools.

Though the partnership has since concluded, the impact of the UWH-CfBT collaboration continues to resonate through the empowered educators, enriched classrooms, and inspired students it helped shape.

Strengthening STEM Learning at TMF Bahadurpally School: A Comprehensive Implementation by CfBT

At TMF Bahadurpally School, CfBT implemented a robust STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education programme designed to ignite curiosity, enhance conceptual understanding, and equip students with future-ready skills. This initiative, supported under the broader goal of transforming government school education, brought together a range of innovative, student-centric learning experiences

Key Components of STEM Implementation at TMF Bahadurpally

1. STEM Classroom Sessions

Dedicated STEM classes were conducted as part of regular school timetables, focusing on:

Strengthening core concepts in Science and Mathematics through interactive lessons.

Using experiments, models, and visual aids to promote experiential learning.

Encouraging students to ask questions, think critically, and apply concepts in real-life contexts

2. STEM Labs

A fully functional STEM Lab was established and equipped with materials aligned to curriculum-based activities, offering:

Hands-on experiments that allowed students to explore scientific principles.

Structured lab sessions integrated into classroom learning.

A safe and stimulating environment for innovation and creativity.

3. STEM Clubs

STEM Clubs served as informal learning spaces where students:

Participated in project-based learning, group activities, science quizzes, and model making.

Explored scientific themes beyond textbooks, developing teamwork and presentation skills.

Engaged in inter-school exhibitions and science fairs, building confidence and public speaking abilities

4. Remedial Education in Science & Mathematics

  • To address learning gaps, CfBT facilitators conducted remedial classes that:

  • Focused on conceptual clarity and foundational skills.

  • Used customized worksheets, real-life examples, and peer learning strategies.

  • Conducted baseline and end-line assessments to measure progress and adjust teaching approaches.

5. Robotics & Coding Modules

Select students were introduced to the basics of robotics and coding, which:

  • Sparked interest in technology, programming, and automation.

  • Fostered logical reasoning, sequencing, and computational thinking.

  • Aligned with the broader goal of nurturing digital literacy and innovation.

6. Teacher Training in Science & Mathematics (TT in Sci & Maths)

CfBT ensured that teachers received targeted support and training through:

Workshops on activity-based and inquiry-driven pedagogy.

Continuous mentoring, co-teaching sessions, and resource sharing.

Emphasis on building teacher confidence in using STEM tools and methods effectively

Impact and Outcomes

The STEM initiative at TMF Bahadurpally School created a vibrant learning ecosystem where:

Students engaged more deeply with Science and Math subjects.

Teachers evolved as facilitators of active, joyful learning.

A culture of exploration, innovation, and curiosity was fostered across classrooms.

This comprehensive implementation continues to serve as a model of integrated STEM education, ensuring that students are not only academically equipped but also inspired to pursue future careers in science and technology
