School Building

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT FOR SCHOOL LEADERS

CFBT India initiated a co-coaching model in India in 2015 with the aim of providing support for Head Teachers to help them meet the demands and equip them with the skills and tools to succeed. As a part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for the Head Teachers and other school
leaders, we designed a tailor-made model that builds on the LCP pilot project has been executed by National Leaders of Education (NLE) in England to suit the needs of CFBT Education Services, India in 19 our country. NLE in England works towards empowering schools in Mumbai during June 2015 – educating school leaders and other system leaders to support December 2015. schools in raising standards and delivering educational excellence everywhere. Building on this model, in India we designed LCP to CFBT, India is currently engaged in facilitating co- coaching partnership between two school leaders for delivering LCP model to 19 schools from enhancing their leadership skills and strategies that help both the Telangana Residential Educational schools grow and develop. Institutions Society (TREIS).

Key features of LCP in India

  • Pairing school leaders in a co-coaching partnership.

  • Developing the coaching and mentoring skills of these leaders acting as leadership mentors.

  • Supporting relationship between partner schools to share good leadership

  • and classroom practice for further improvement.

  • Enabling the leadership mentors to describe and track their own improvement journey.

  • Empowering the leadership mentors to become master trainers and system leaders.

The LCP idea in action - Pilot in Mumbai

CFBT Education Services, India piloted LCP in 19 schools in Mumbai with the support of the Archdiocesan Board of Education Mumbai.
This was viewed as a potentially low cost, high impact, and
sustainable approach to school improvement. School leaders were selected from a mix of schools – private aided and private; and from different Boards of affiliation including the State Board, IB and Cambridge. We paired school leaders to provide regular high calibre coaching to each other in achieving rapid school
improvement over a 6month period. Each school leader set a
measurable improvement priority using school data, and they
supported each other to codify and share their good school
leadership practices. With the diverse range of schools involved in the pilot, the learnings are highly relevant to the wide range of
schools within the Indian context.

“Learning has now become joyful, and the ‘happy school’ syndrome
is observed many a times.”

Mrs. Seema Shaikh, Principal, Pragyna
Bodhini High School, Goregaon, Mumbai

We have learnt to acknowledge and appreciate the resources
available in our respective schools and make the best of it.”

-Sr. Olinda, Assistant Head Mistress, St. Anthony’s Girls
High School, Chembur, Mumbai

“My lesson observation has changed. Instead of me giving teachers critical feedback, I have now begun to ask the teachers for feedback on their own lessons.”

Mrs. Susan Fernandes, Headteacher, St. Isabel’s High
School, Mazgaon, Mumbai
