Vantage- The English Language Lab

Purpose of the lab To augment the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of students through language games, activities and team work. Layout of the lab The lab has areas demarcated for: listening, reading and language games, writing and speaking.

How does the programme work?

Your English teachers are trained as Lab Managers by CFBT to effectively manage the lab sessions. The school management schedules the lab sessions in its timetable. The Lab Managers conduct the lab sessions for the students. There is minimal dependence on the Lab Managers for learning as the Operations Manuals have the required information in it. The Lab Managers are adept at classroom management- techniques for this are imparted in the course of training by CFBT. The Lab Manager maintains a Lab Register for each age group.

How are the sessions conducted

Different activities for the different skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing take place in a session. For example, some students take up an activity pertaining to listening, while some take up activities pertaining to reading or writing and a few may use the recording cubicle for speaking. All the students do not work on one activity. Lab register A Lab Register is maintained for each age group. The Lab Manager fills in the details of each session in the Lab Register for the age group/grade that has attended the session. The Lab Register has the following details: Name of the Lab Manager, Date, Time of the session, Age group, Grade, Name of the student, Activity done, Activity repeated ( no.of times), Skill(s) covered and Remarks.
